Baylor Turnbow is an active music educator and life long learner who places heavy emphasis on the facilitation of knowledge through student goal based objectives, hands on learning, and critical consciousness. He is a cognitivist that holds sociocultural perspectives on education and prioritizes social and emotional learning.
Creative and high energy teaching pairs well with his skills for administrative and logistical processes. He is no stranger to managing and organizing data to keep a program healthy.
Developed a K-12 music curriculum focused on instruction aligned to state standards, student engagement, and authentic assessment that served over 300 students. Taught instrumental music, vocal music, and general music. Increased student retention and community presence in the program. Helped navigate district faculty through comprehensive distance learning by training faculty on instructional technologies.
Automated nearly all of the clerical needs of the athletic bands, including managing data, inventory, and logistics of the program (student charges, music, communication, etc.). Responsible for organizing travel for the ensembles, I worked within a strict budget and timeline.
Maintained a studio of young saxophonists, from grades 6-12. Teaching consisted of saxophone techniques, fundamentals, music theory, and performance techniques. Instruction was student goal oriented and individualized. Many of my students competed in the OSAA solo music competition and/or the OSAA small music ensemble competition; additionally, students in my studio have placed top 5 in the high saxophone division.
Attending Western Oregon while teaching in public schools to better his understanding of educational concepts and their implications in rural public schools. The program will also provide K-12 music licensure upon completion.
Worked closely with Dr. Chris Chapman for conducting, Dr. Jason Gossett for music education, Nathan Boal for saxophone, and Mr. Olin Hannum as an office assistant. Took a particular interest in educational philosophies and pedagogies in addition to music administration.

Served on the committee to create the district blue print for "Ready Safe Schools." Worked to help solve challenges related to regulations and restrictions that affected instruction. Helped create protocols and policies for COVID-19 related restriction.
